Before God spoke a word of introduction to Moses, He demanded reverence. God asked Moses to remove his sandals since he was standing on holy ground.
When we walk into a church we are standing on holy ground. We will not hear God speak to us in prayer until we too have a disposition of reverence.
When we take our hearts to prayer, wherever we are, we must begin with reverence. We acknowledge that God is Lord while humbly submitting to His holy will.
Reverence is that first step that establishes our relationship with God. He is our loving Creator and we are His servant creatures whom He invites to become His adopted children.
Through reverent prayer therefore, we come to know God’s love and protection, that despite the fires that encircle us we may be preserved like the burning bush which the fire did not consume.
