The Griping of the Apostles

Andrew — “Why was I left out of the inner circle? I’m the brother of Peter, yet I always got left behind.”

James, son of Alphaeus — “What about me? I’m Jesus’ cousin.”

Nathaniel — “I was the one left out. Wasn’t it I who first said that He was the Son of God when I met Him? I should have been made the leader, not Peter.”

Simon the Zealot — “Peter may have taken your position but he took my name from me; even though Jesus changed his name from Simon to Peter, still, to my shame, everyone now refers to me as the zealot.”

Jude — “If anyone has a problem with names, it should be me. After what Judas did, my name is ruined. I must call myself Jude from now on.”

Matthew — “What gets me is why was Judas chosen to keep the money bag? Was I not the most experienced in dealing with money? Obviously, Jesus still distrusted me having once been a tax collector. It did not seem fair.”

Thomas — “I’ll tell you what’s not fair. Why did Jesus appear to you all in this locked room when He knew I was absent? Why did He not wait until I got back?”

Philip — “What about me? All I wanted was to see the Father.  I wasn’t asking for much. But He answered me with some mystery instead.”

James — “My brother and I were told a mystery that meant something worse for us. We were only trying to be the best disciples and get to sit at His right and His left, but instead, He promised us a cup of His sorrow. I will probably be the first one to get killed.”

John — “You should be thankful if you go first. I miss the Lord so much, I cannot wait to be with Him again. I’ll probably be the last one to die and that would be a far worse suffering.”

Peter — “There’s no suffering like what I endured. None of you got called Satan by Him as I did. Yet, when we gripe about His will for us, we can all be called Satan. In our ambition and comparison to others, we are doubting His love for us. Did Jesus not say He is going to prepare a mansion for each one of us? Now tell me, would not every key to the door of a mansion be unique? Just as every key-shape is different, so too must our journeys be different. Jesus is leading us to our mansion, but only our own key, the one He presents us with, will open the door. I know all about keys.”
